The late David ‘Dai’ Vaughan sets up Vaughan Sound Systems. Initially based in Swansea, the company provides hire, sales, and servicing of sound and communications systems.
Paul Adams establishes PA Installations to supply quality, cutting edge sound and lighting systems to the burgeoning entertainment industry, initially specialising in the nightclub installation market.
PA Installations is instrumental in helping assess the feasibility of, then in planning, designing, and completing a groundbreaking club install in Cardiff University Students’ Union. With a capacity of 1,100 (later expanded to over 1,500), ‘The Hanging Gardens’ became a transformation of what was previously a cold and lifeless refectory into a club environment that filled to capacity five days a week. Commercially, this led the way for other students’ unions and PA Installations went on to complete 100+ similar projects in other universities, all of which then benefitted local students as revenues were reinvested into student services.
The company becomes a registered member of the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA).
PAI develops an impressive AV concept for Warner Village Cinemas and its European partners that is rolled out throughout the UK, Western Europe and Japan.
Following acquisition, Vaughan Sound becomes part of the PAI Group, moving into purpose-built 15,000 sq. foot premises in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
PAI works with leading AV designer Vincent Rice to manufacture and install giant display screen solutions at Virgin Megastore’s flagship on Oxford Street, London.
LTP is acquired, expanding the PAI Group’s product portfolio and bringing on board specialist knowledge of large-scale interior and exterior architectural lighting systems.
PAI is crowned the Smirnoff BEDA Scotland Awards Installation winner for its work for Castle Leisure Group at its City club in Market Street, Edinburgh.
36 Vue Cinemas (formerly owned by Warner Village Cinemas) receive a rebrand and refresh of their AV systems, all within a 12-week timeframe.
PAI is incorporated into the PAI Group of Companies, with PAI now a trading name of Vaughan Sound Installations Ltd (Reg. No. 02194943).
A second BEDA Award in three years is presented to PAI, this time for its sound installation at Oceana in Leeds for owner Luminar Leisure PLC.
LTP replaces the temporary fluorescent fixtures with a permanent LED lighting installation on the London Eye, the UK’s most popular paid visitor attraction.
Vaughan Sound installs a public address and voice alarm system at Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s SWALEC Stadium, ahead of the venue hosting the first Ashes test in Cardiff.
Vaughan Sound completes a major refurbishment of the public address/voice alarm system at the iconic Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.
PAI celebrates 30 years of trading; releasing a ‘Blast from the Past’ series of articles, news items and photos spanning three decades in the AV industry.
LTP supplies and installs decorative handrail and architectural lighting to Jarrold Bridge in Norwich, which is later crowned the International Footbridges Award Winner alongside several other accolades.
PAI completes a first digital signage project for DFS at their Tottenham Court Road flagship. It begins an estate wide roll out of digital display technology involving over 125 stores across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Spain.
There’s another trophy for the cabinet as we are crowned Runners Up in the ECA Chairman’s Cup, thanks largely to Richard Vaughan’s prowess with a putter.
LTP Integration illuminates Strand East Tower. The 130ft structure on the Stratford skyline, close to the Olympic Park, won the Special Projects – Exterior Lighting prize at the Lighting Design Awards.
Vaughan Sound marks 50 years in the AV, sound and communications industry –during which time it has served customers and communities across South West Wales, through to national and international clients.
A camp-wide public address over IP installation at the Ministry of Defence’s St Athan site sees the integration of over 7,000 metres of fibre cable and 112 loudspeakers.
LTP Integration provides a dynamic LED lighting scheme to central structures at the Universal Exposition, Milan.
Vaughan Sound earns a place on a £100 million, four-year framework for the provision of audio-visual products and services to over 30 HEPCW/SUPC registered colleges and universities across Wales and South West England.

PAI achieves the status of Smart Signage Reseller, joining the Samsung Team of Empowered Partners (STEP) as one of the digital display manufacturer’s leading integrators in terms of scaling to meet client needs.
PAI exhibits at the Retail Digital Signage Expo at London’s Olympia. Co-located with Retail Design Expo and Retail Business Technology Expo, RDSE is Europe’s leading annual event for innovation and inspiration in retail design and technology.
